10 Quick Facts About The Ganaraskan

The Ganaraskan is a relatively new breed that most people are unfamiliar with. However, they are becoming more and more popular, especially in Canada. So let’s all start getting more familiar with this doggo with some quick facts about them!

#10 - This breed is also commonly referred to as “Gannie” - that is, aside from the 784 nicknames that their owners give them 😂

#9 - The Gannie was originally developed in the late 1970s by a group of breeders from Ontario. 

#8 - The Ganaraskan is not currently an official purebred dog. They are gaining popularity and may very well be considered one soon. 

#7 - This dog breed was initially bred to be the ideal therapy dog, and they excel with this kind of work. Besides being great therapy dogs, Gannies are also wonderful family dogs.

#6 - The Ganaraskan is a mixed breed and is a combination of the Bichon Frise, the Miniature Schnauzer, the Poodle, and the English Cocker Spaniel.

#5 - These pups are relatively small and usually weigh between 16-25 pounds.

#4 - The Gannie is a highly intelligent dog that excels at training. Teaching these dogs something new should be a breeze, as they are always eager to learn.

#3 - The Gannie is ideal for people that live in apartments for many reasons. They do not shed much, are small, and manage to burn off a lot of their energy within the house. That said, they will still love going to the dog park and socializing with other doggos and people!

#2 - Do not expect these pups to be the best watchdogs, as they do not bark a lot and are super friendly toward everyone they meet. They would be far more likely to greet an intruder with some tail wags and face licks as opposed to any kind of aggressive behavior!
