A veterinary specialist is someone who has obtained advanced education in a specific field of veterinary medicine. After graduating from veterinary school, they are generally required to complete four years of additional training in their field of expertise. Following that advanced training, they must then submit their credentials and pass a certification examination. Upon completion of this process, the veterinarian becomes a diplomate and is considered a board-certified specialist.
