Montreal has a great dog community with more than 120 dog-friendly parks that you can find on the DogPack app. The long winter months can make it difficult to exercise your dog; however, bringing your fur friend to a dog park for even 15 minutes can dramatically improve their health and happiness. So here we list our five favourite (difficult to choose) off-leash dog areas in Montreal.
Address: 7503 Bd de la Vérendrye, Montréal
The location of this dog park is in a beautiful park with tons of trees, grassy areas, and a walking trail near the water. The entire park is dog-friendly on-leash; however, there is also an excellent off-leash dog park. The off-leash area includes plenty of shaded areas with picnic benches. The dog park is large, and there is a separation for small and large dogs. Angrignon park is a great place to spend an entire day, and this awesome dog park is a bonus!
Address: 521 Elm Ave, Beaconsfield, Quebec
This massive off-leash area is separated into large and small dog sections, which is great for finding suitable playmates. The main attraction at this location is its immense size - over 250M in length! Many dogs can play comfortably in this area at the same time. This location can get very busy, especially on weekends, so it is a great place to meet new doggy friends! In addition, there is also a beautiful forested walking trail near the dog park entrance. The trail is not an off-leash area, but it is excellent if you are also trying to get some exercise!
Address: 3410 Av. Émile-Duployé, Montréal
Any Montrealer is familiar with Lafontaine park, and for a good reason - it is a great place to spend a day with your pup. The dog park is situated within the large park with a seating area and some shade. There is no separation between small and large dogs, so if you have a small dog, you should consider this. The environment at this dog park is fun and friendly!
Address: 40 Av. Mcgregor, Montréal
This off-leash area is situated in downtown Montreal and is enormous. It is a beautiful fenced-in grassy area that your fur friend will love. There is plenty of space so many dogs can play at once, and there is a shaded area for owners to sit and watch. The best part about this dog park is that it is very close to Mount Royal park, another fantastic place where you can take your pup for on-leash walks.
Address: 36 Summit Cir, Westmount, Quebec
We rate Summit Woods in Westmount as our #1 favourite off-leash area. However, it is important to note that dog owners should only utilize this area if their dog has a good recall, as it is not fenced. This off-leash space is a massive off-leash trail where your dog can run free, chase after squirrels, play with other dogs, and get rid of all their energy. The best part is that you can walk alongside your pup on the lovely trail that is situated inside a forested area. The one thing to remember at this park is that dogs must remain on a leash for a couple of months in the year.
